Indian Style Fried Cabbage, Patta Gobhi

If you want a quick and easy Indian side dish, or if you are looking for an alternative to rice to eat with the Indian food you have prepared Patta Gobhi is an easy and delicious option.

The recipe is super simple and is a fairly common recipe for simple fried Indian style vegetables. Basically you heat up some oil. Add in mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Add in your vegetable and a bit of turmeric and chili powder and there you go!

Looking for a rice alternative, or an easy side dish for your Indian meal? Try this very easy Indian style cabbage, Patta Gobhi.

Ingredients

  • 1 cabbage head

  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri Chili powder

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

  • Squirt of lemon (optional)

Directions

  • Slice cabbage into approximately 1/4 inch by 2 inch pieces
  • Heat up a wok or large frying pan over medium high heat. Add in your oil. Heat until the oil is shimmering. Add in the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let the mustard seeds pop briefly and the cumin seeds to just start to brown.
  • Add the sliced cabbage and turmeric, salt and kasmiri chili.
  • Stir fry for 2-4 minutes until the cabbage just starts to soften but still has a little bit of bite to it.
  • Optional finish in the pan with a squirt of lemon.
